What's good for Māori is good for the world

Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (TWoA) is New Zealand's second largest education provider with more than 80 locations throughout New Zealand.

Operating for over 30 years, they offer more than 50 recognised qualifications, including certificates, diplomas, degrees and masters degrees.

Culturally rich and inclusive, TWoA is a unique Māori learning environment that is accessible to all New Zealanders. They are proud of their holistic approach and diversity, with 96% of their students recommending them.

TWoA approached me to help develop:

  • a new student recruitment strategy
  • a new look and feel for advertising
  • templates for enrolment and recruitment of students for their degree and business programmes
  • 1 through to 9 courses templates that their internal design team could update and manage.

Online advertising.

Templates created for the internal design team.

The result of our work together...

All student recruitment targets were achieved and the internal design team had success with the advertising templates we produced for them. This cut their time spent on design and output by at least 50%.

Working with TWoA opened my eyes to different approaches operating in the community. At the start of this project, to gain a deeper insight into my client and their students, I studied part-time at TWoA to gain He Papa Tikanga, NZ Certificate in Tikanga (Mātauranga Māori).

He Papa Tikanga provided great insights into a Māori worldview. You learn about traditions, concepts, values and protocols and understand why Māori do things a certain way. Then you discover how to apply some of these concepts in your home, workplace and community.

It was good to challenge my thinking and reflect on my own beliefs and values and how they relate to those of other cultures.
